Services
APPOINTMENTOur services begin with a solid foundation for wellness care because we believe that disease prevention and early detection is the greatest gift we can give our animal friends. Beyond this, we also offer a full array of other medical, diagnostic, surgical and dental care services, as well as a number of alternative and integrative therapy options. Whether it’s a simple checkup or life-saving emergency care, you can count on the team at Woodland Hills to be there for it all.
Most importantly, the services we offer are meant as a general guideline upon which we build individual treatment plans. We don’t just offer you options, but we will work with you to develop a customized health care plan that is tailored specifically to your pet’s unique needs. We want to become more than just your pet’s doctor. We want to become your trusted partner, working together keeping your companion happy and healthy.
Wellness and Vaccinations
As your pet’s caregiver, you are charged with the important task of keeping that little guy or gal happy and healthy for as many years as possible. At Woodland Hills Pet Clinic, we consider it a true honor to partner with you in this endeavor. That’s why we’ve worked so hard to develop a wellness program that is designed to help your pet achieve optimum health for life, whether it’s a first puppy visit or specialized care for your senior companion.
Why is wellness care so important?
Many pet parents wonder if it’s really necessary to bring their four-legged friends into the vet when they seem to be perfectly healthy. The reality is, even an animal that appears fine on the outside may actually be experiencing a serious health problem on the inside. If left untreated, these issues can progress and worsen, making them much more difficult and expensive to treat. Wellness care helps us to keep a close eye on your companion’s health, year after year, preventing illness and catching it in its earliest stages. This is the best way to keep your loved one in good health and improve the chances of a long, happy life.
Our ultimate goal with wellness care is to protect your pet from many of the dangers he or she will encounter throughout the years. This is done by developing a customized plan for routine vaccinations. Other preventative measures include nutrition, weight management, parasite control, and behavioral advice. We want to help your pet maintain a strong immune system and remain as healthy and fit as possible. In turn, this will improve his or her overall life and longevity.
Wellness care also involves ongoing health management through early disease detection. When we are able to examine your pet on a regular basis, we are able to recognize the signs of potential medical concerns as soon as they occur. Identifying, diagnosing and treating illness as early as possible can mean more happy, healthy years you get to spend together. We know this is your ultimate goal, and it’s something we strive for as well.
For optimum results, we recommend that healthy adult dogs and cats visit with us at least once a year. Puppies, kittens, senior pets, and animals with existing health issues typically require more frequent checkups. We’ll work with you to create an individualized wellness program, including a customized preventative care protocol that is tailored specifically to your pet.
Puppy Wellness
Congratulations on your new puppy! We are honored that you’ve chosen us to help protect and care for the new addition to your family. Our puppy wellness program is designed to help get your new four-legged friend started on the right path to a long and healthy life. The first few months are a critical period in your puppy’s development. We can give you the support and tools necessary to help him or her grow into a well-mannered, healthy dog. This includes information and advice on nutrition, training, behavior, and socialization.
Our new puppy visits are very comprehensive. In fact, we dedicate an entire hour to you and your new family member! During each scheduled visit, we will perform a complete physical examination to assess your pup’s health and rule out any potential medical concerns. We’re also happy to answer any questions you may have regarding feeding, housebreaking, chewing/biting, basic care, and training.
Until your puppy has received a series of vaccines, he or she is susceptible to many serious but preventable diseases. We will make sure your new companion is protected against rabies, distemper, and parvovirus, among other diseases. Your puppy will also need to be tested and treated for parasites, which are extremely common in young dogs. Some parasites can even be transmitted to humans. By ensuring that your puppy is properly treated, you can keep your entire family safe.
Kitten Wellness
Congratulations on your new kitten! We are honored that you’ve chosen us to care for the latest four-legged addition to your family. Our kitten wellness program is designed to help get your new cat started on the right path to a long and healthy life. The first few months in a young cat’s life are critical to his or her health and development. We want to provide you with the support and tools you need to help that little guy or gal grow into a well-mannered, healthy cat. This includes information and advice on nutrition, litterbox training, and behavior.
Until your kitten has received a series of vaccines, he or she is susceptible to many serious but preventable diseases. We will make sure your new pet is protected against rabies and panleukopenia (distemper). Depending on your cat’s lifestyle and risk factors, we may also recommend vaccinating against other diseases, such as feline leukemia virus (FeLV). In addition, your kitten will need to be tested and treated for common parasites, some of which can be transmitted to humans. By ensuring that your kitten is properly treated, you can keep your entire family safe.
We’ve got all the care and services you need to keep your loved one healthy and fit. Woodland Hills Pet Clinic offers wellness care for pets of all life stages. Let’s work together to give your furry friend the gift of good health.
Nutrition and Weight Management
The nutritional needs of our pets are much different from ours. The right diet and an active lifestyle to maintain a healthy weight are essential in your companion’s overall wellbeing. Yet figuring out whether your pet’s food is truly meeting his or her unique needs can be challenging, even for the most seasoned pet parent. Our team is experienced in all aspects of companion animal nutrition and can help get your loved one on the right path to optimum wellness.
Developing the Right Diet
Just as each pet is unique, not all pet foods are created equal. The goal is to determine precisely what your companion’s nutritional needs are and then customize a food plan that will most effectively meet those needs. This starts with a thorough physical exam and also includes a detailed analysis of your pet’s lifestyle and current health status. We will take into consideration how old your pet is, what he or she weighs and whether or not there are any existing medical problems that will require special support.
Our comprehensive nutritional evaluation will help us to develop a diet that is directly aligned with your pet’s needs. This may involve a recommendation of prescription food products, which typically contain better ingredients for a more balanced diet. These special foods are also an excellent tool for managing certain chronic health conditions, such as diabetes and arthritis. When we can work toward making your pet healthier on the inside, the rest will fall into place.
A Healthier Weight
There may be nothing more adorable than a chubby pet, but those extra pounds can actually spell disaster for a companion animal. Pets who are even just a few pounds too heavy can be at a much greater risk of developing a number of serious health problems. Conversely, underweight animals tend to be more prone to illness or injury. We want to protect your loved one against these dangers by helping them maintain a healthier weight over time.
The information we gathered during our nutritional analysis will also help us determine what weight range would be ideal for your particular pet. Once we’ve got a target number in mind, we will work with you to come up with a strategy for achieving that goal. This may include calorie control, exercise, changes in food or lifestyle, or some combination of these. If your pet is a senior or has a medical condition, we can come up with a plan that will be perfect for their unique needs.
Ongoing Maintenance
As your pet navigates through the various stages of life, it’s important that his or her diet and exercise plan also change accordingly. At certain intervals during your pet’s life, we will reexamine our approach and make any necessary adjustments so that we can continue to achieve optimum results.
You want your pet to enjoy many happy, healthy years by your side. It starts with a foundation of good nutrition and a healthy weight.
Dentistry
Imagine how your mouth would feel if you didn’t brush for days, weeks, months or years. Sadly, this is a reality for many companion animals. Without regular care, your pet’s mouth can become a haven for plaque, tartar, and dangerous bacteria. If left untreated, this could lead to everything from bad breath and tooth loss to periodontal disease, a serious medical condition that could shorten your pet’s life. You can help your pet avoid all of this by simply making a commitment to his or her ongoing dental care.
Woodland Hills Pet Clinic wants to support your dedication to this important cause by offering complete, professional pet dentistry services and working with you on proper home dental care techniques. Together we’ll make sure your animal family member enjoys many years of good dental health!
Common signs of dental disease include:
- Yellow or brown build up (tartar) on the teeth
- Red, swollen, or bleeding gums
- Bad breath
- Excessive drooling
- Changes in eating or chewing habits
- Pawing at the face
- Loose teeth
- Depression
Even if your dog or cat doesn’t have these symptoms, we recommend having his or her dental health evaluated at least once a year. This helps us to apply preventative care techniques, like exams and cleanings. It also provides an opportunity to identify the signs of potential dental problems early, so they can be addressed right away. The more we stay on top of your pet’s oral health, the better the chances that he or she will enjoy a long, happy life.
In addition to our professional care, we can help show you how to brush your pet’s teeth at home, in between vet visits. We’d also be happy to provide recommendations for various foods and treats that are formulated to help combat plaque and tartar buildup.
Laser Therapy
For decades now, doctors of both human and animal medicine have been leveraging the power of laser technology as a drug-free, non-invasive way to treat a wide variety of ailments and injuries in patients. Laser therapy uses light technology to painlessly penetrate areas of the body that have been injured or are experiencing pain. As part of our commitment to always offering the best available options in animal health care, Woodland Hills Pet Clinic is pleased to offer therapeutic laser treatments.
What is laser therapy?
During a laser therapy session, the doctor uses a small, handheld device, which emits an intense beam of light. The laser causes a cellular response in the area of the body being targeted, which triggers natural healing and pain-relief. This therapy option can be used to effectively manage pain, improve mobility and speed the healing process following surgery or injury.
Will laser therapy hurt my pet?
The laser produces absolutely no sensation when applied to the body, making it a completely painless procedure. In fact, most patients find the process to be incredibly relaxing. This is a great alternative to other, more invasive treatment options, such as surgery. It can also produce amazing results after just a few treatments.
How much does laser therapy cost?
Just as every pet is unique, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to laser therapy. Therefore, the cost, duration, and length of each treatment plan will vary based on each specific situation. Once your pet has been evaluated, we will provide you with a detailed treatment plan recommendation, which will include all the information you need to make an informed decision.
Laser therapy can provide relief and faster healing for many common ailments, including:
- Arthritis
- Hip Dysplasia
- Injuries to the Muscles, Joints or Ligaments
- Puncture Wounds
- Post-Surgical Pain Control and Healing
- Rehabilitation Following Injury
- Joint Pain
- Dermatological Conditions
- Strains and Sprains
- Neck and Back Pain
- Burns
- Much More…
If your pet suffers from any of these acute or chronic conditions, recently underwent surgery or suffered an injury, or has been experiencing pain or mobility issues, laser therapy may provide the ideal solution.
Allergies and Dermatology
You take care of your pet’s internal health, but what about the outside? Underneath all that fur and fluff is a layer of skin that can be just as sensitive as yours. In fact, companion animals are susceptible to many of the same skin conditions that humans can experience. As a result of these conditions, your pet could be feeling itchy, uncomfortable and downright miserable. The good news is we can help!
The professional pet allergy and dermatology services we offer are designed to quickly and accurately identify, diagnose and treat skin conditions and help our patients enjoy happier, more comfortable lives. We’ll help make sure your pet is as healthy on the outside as on the inside!
Through our many years of training and experience, we can often diagnose a skin problem by simply examining your pet. Some dermatologic diseases or conditions, on the other hand, require additional diagnostic testing to ensure an accurate and timely diagnosis. Depending on your pet’s symptoms and the results of our physical exam, we may run blood work or perform a urinalysis, skin scraping, or biopsies. Some of the many dermatological issues we can assist with include:
- Allergies
- Infections
- Dermatitis
- Parasites
- Skin Cancer
- Ear Infections
- Hormonal Imbalances
- Diseases of the Paws
- Autoimmune Disorders
- Tumors
Some dermatological problems can be permanently cured while others require ongoing treatment. Our goal is to develop a course of care that will help keep your pet as comfortable as possible. Treatments often include the use of topical, oral or injectable medications, as well as supplements. We also offer laser therapy, which provides quick and painless relief from a wide variety of skin disorders.
If we determine that an allergy is to blame for your pet’s symptoms, the next step will involve testing to determine what type of allergy we are dealing with as well as what is triggering your pet’s reactions. In many cases, we are able to help you manage an allergy by recommending certain changes to your pet’s home environment, such as trying new food. This helps to provide your pet with relief without having to use medications.
If you notice your dog or cat scratching excessively or if he or she develops any bald spots, scabs, scaling, redness, inflammation, lumps, or bumps, give us a call right away. We’re here to help!
Diagnostics
When people are sick or become injured, they simply visit their doctor, explain the problem and receive the appropriate care. Managing the health care of our animal friends isn’t always this straightforward. In fact, because our pets cannot speak to tell us what’s bothering them, recognizing and addressing the signs of illness or injury can be like solving a complex puzzle. In these instances, we turn to veterinary diagnostics to help us get the answers we need. Woodland Hills Pet Clinic offers a full array of routine and advanced diagnostic services.
Our diagnostic tools help us to learn exactly what’s happening inside your pet’s body. This allows us to diagnose and treat the problem in the most timely and effective manner. Our hospital is outfitted with modern equipment, including an in-house laboratory. We also offer other advanced technologies such as digital x-ray, ultrasound imaging, cardiology and more. We will work hard to get to the bottom of whatever may be ailing your animal companion, quickly and accurately.
Being able to test your pet for any illness or injury is important – especially for those conditions that require prompt treatment. The sooner we are able to diagnose the problem at hand, the sooner we can develop and implement an effective treatment plan. Our in-house diagnostic services allow us to manage your pet’s health in a timely manner, which can vastly improve the chances of a positive prognosis and speedy recovery.
When your loved one isn’t feeling well, you want answers and you want them fast. You can rely on the comprehensive diagnostic services at Woodland Hills Pet Clinic. We’ll provide the results you need when you need them so you can focus on getting your companion back on the path to good health once again.
Surgery
At Woodland Hills Pet Clinic, we believe our surgical care is second to none…from our clean, modern surgical suite to the wide array of surgical procedures we offer to the extra care and attention given to patient comfort and safety. We understand that surgery on a family member is never an easy time, and the process can be a source of stress and anxiety for you both. Our team is prepared to answer your questions, discuss your concerns and set your mind at ease, once and for all. Whether it’s a routine spay or neuter, or something more complex, you can rest assured that your loved one will be in excellent hands with our dedicated surgical team!
Our dedicated team takes every precaution to ensure that your pet receives the highest-quality care. This includes a comprehensive physical exam and thorough pre-anesthetic testing before surgery and monitoring your pet during the procedure. It also involves providing appropriate pain medication to keep your pet comfortable throughout the entire process. We even tailor our pain management approach to meet your pet’s unique needs and risk factors, improving the chances of a safe and pain-free experience.
Because we want to ensure that your pet always receives the best possible outcome, we may refer you to specialists (board-certified veterinary surgeons) if necessary. These experts are available to perform certain complex operations utilizing their special training and advanced equipment.
Your Pet’s Surgery
The morning of your pet’s surgery, we will be waiting to welcome you both and check your companion in for his or her procedure. We take extra measures to ensure that our surgical patients feel comfortable and relaxed because we believe that this creates an optimum environment for surgery. Our dedicated team will spend as much time as necessary speaking to your pet, offering cuddles and reassuring rub downs – whatever it takes to set them at ease.
Shortly before surgery, your pet will be gently prepped and carefully sedated. The doctor will get to work performing the scheduled procedure, along with the assistance of our experienced veterinary nursing staff. Support staff will also remain on hand at all times to monitor your pet’s wellbeing throughout the surgery. We will keep a close eye on vital signs and ensure that the proper amount of pain control is being administered throughout the procedure.
It’s important to note that anesthesia and patient monitoring vary greatly from clinic to clinic. You can be confident that at Woodland Hills Pet Clinic, we use the most effective and up-to-date protocols. The type of anesthesia we use depends on the procedure being performed. Some require general anesthesia, while others may only call for local anesthesia or light sedation. We treat every surgery with the utmost care and concern, regardless of whether it’s routine or more advanced.
After-Care
When surgery is finished, we will transfer your loved one to our quiet recovery area. There, our monitoring will continue as the anesthesia begins to wear off. It’s important to us that when your pet wakes up, someone is there to make the experience peaceful and calm. Rest assured that your companion will awaken to the familiar faces and soothing voices of our compassionate care team.
Someone will contact you to go over the results of surgery and to arrange for you to come to retrieve your companion. At that point, we will also provide our after-care instructions, which may include an appropriate plan to manage your pet’s pain during the recovery process. Laser therapy is available as an additional service to help your pet enjoy a faster and more comfortable post-surgical experience.
Integrative Medicine
Natural medicine options, such as acupuncture and herbal therapy, have been used on both people and animals for centuries. These alternative treatments can be used individually or in conjunction with traditional Western medicine techniques to achieve the best possible outcome. At Woodland Hills Pet Clinic, we believe that when it comes to managing your pet’s health, the more choices you have, the better. That’s why we’re pleased to offer a number of integrative therapy options to help you provide your loved one with the best possible care.
Veterinary Acupuncture
Just like human acupuncture, veterinary acupuncture involves the insertion of tiny, sterile needles into precise points along the body known as acupoints. Each of these spots is linked to various body systems, internal organs, joints or muscle groups. When done properly by a trained professional, acupuncture stimulates the nerves, increases circulation and causes the body to release natural pain control hormones, such as endorphins.
Veterinary acupuncture can treat any of the following types of conditions in companion animals:
- Arthritis
- Disc Disease
- Back Pain
- Muscle Soreness
- Joint Stiffness and Pain
- Seizures
- Paralysis
- Gastrointestinal Disorders
- Asthma
- Dermatological Conditions
- Reproductive Problems
- Much More…
Chinese Herbal Therapy
Some pet parents prefer to manage the health of their companions without the use of medication. Others find that natural remedies provide a good complement to the conventional care their pet is receiving. The ancient art of Chinese herbal therapy offers an excellent option to promote a healthier lifestyle and manage existing medical conditions naturally.
Herbal therapy involves the strategic combination of plant substances, which work together to produce the desired result. That result may be boosting the immune system or treating the symptoms of illness or disease. These formulas have been studied and applied for hundreds of years. The experienced team at Woodland Hills can develop an individualized herbal treatment plan that is perfect for your pet.
Reiki
Just like humans, the energy within our pets’ bodies can become negative. This buildup of negative energy is believed to restrict the flow of good energy or Chi. When Chi is blocked, the body can react through physical and emotional ailments, including chronic pain, anxiety, arthritis, and other, more serious medical conditions. Veterinary reiki is a traditional Japanese alternative therapy option which is meant to reduce stress, provide relaxation and promote healing and balance in the body. Reiki sessions are tailored to the unique needs of each pet.
